Who wants to visit the spectacular National Park islands with us? This friend went out on a limb and made the trip!
We know how fortunate we are to dwell at this intersection where health, families and finances permit us this amazing Mexican voyage. It is a wonderful time in our lives, one that we wish we could share with more of you!
We have hoped for so long to share this amazing place with friends and family, that when someone bravely stepped forward to come visit, we were immediately a bit nervous. Would the weather cooperate? Could we escape any unpleasant boat maintenance issues? Would the winds let us out of La Paz? The answer to all was a lovely “si,” and even though the weather and water were a bit cooler than could be hoped for, the superlative beauty of the islands was on fine display.
We motored and sailed to three different anchorages in the Isla Espiritu Santu and Isla Partido archipelago. On return, we spent a last night eight miles north of La Paz anchored in Puerto Ballandra. Along the way, we hiked and swam, snorkeled and kayaked, fished and photographed, drank tequila and ate homemade tortillas. Did I forget anything?
Perhaps I should have mentioned the plant and wildlife watching? Or the simple pleasure of hanging out in the cockpit for a peaceful sunset, or the mind-calming ability to send an email via satellite to check in with family from a remote location?
So here is our reminder for all of you people whom we love so dearly: we will not be here forever! This place is spectacular, and relatively easy to reach via bus or air. Maybe someday another visitor, will slip into one of the spare bunks on Pelican Moon. Perhaps it could be you!
(To further tempt any of you who may be wavering, here is a gallery from the last few weeks spent on the marvelous, magical islands of this National Park, a Unesco World Heritage site and officially-designated Biosphere Reserve):
